"The best thing about the programme is that it prepares you for a very specific field and at the same time broadens your view by applying an interdisciplinary approach."

Mia Blatancic

Mia Blatancic from Croatia is currently studying the Master's Programme with specialisation Sustainable Service Management. We asked her what she thinks about her studies and her future plans!

What is the best thing about your programme?
The best thing about the programme is that it prepares you for a very specific field and at the same time broadens your view by applying an interdisciplinary approach.

Why did you choose the specialisation Sustainable Service Management?
Specializing in Sustainability comes from my personal and academic interest. With the growing awareness of sustainability in our society, this specialisation prepares you on how to implement sustainable strategies in the service industry. Learning from the best practices in the region, I feel it provides you with the most contemporary responses for tackling sustainable issues.

What do you think of the teaching style within the programme?
The teaching style here is very engaging. I like that the interaction between the lecturers and students is natural and friendly. The role of a teacher here is to provide an open guidance, and let you express your opinion, which creates an amazing learning atmosphere.

What do you plan to do after your studies?
After my studies I would like to apply my knowledge from the programme and expand it by working in the field. Taking on a role as sustainability consultant, I would gain a specific insight in potential development areas. After gaining a practical perspective, I hope I could contribute to academic research as a doctoral student.

What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I do a lot of sports with my classmates, as we find that to be a good head-clearing activity in between our studies. We also like to explore the city and surrounding Skåne area. As we are mostly international students, everything is new and exciting.

What is it like to live in Sweden and what have you learnt from it so far?
Living in Sweden so far has been amazing. There is a beautiful balance between green and urban areas, and the infrastructure is really made for everyone’s convenience. The culture here is very inclusive and the city is very cosmopolitan. I have learnt from the Swedish culture that, simplicity and modesty are the key to a better life.

Do you have any advice for students considering to study at Lund University or Campus Helsinborg?
For those considering studying here, I would advise them to prepare to get emersed in a multicultural learning experience, which in turn will prepare them for their future career much more than just their course tasks.
