There is a need for new research methods
NORBATOUR connects universities in Estonia, Finland, Sweden and Denmark to develop the research within the field of tourism. The importance of the tourism industry in the regional economy is growing and the need for research and study activities is increasing.
In order to evaluate the impact of tourism, a development of tourism research methods and networking is urgent. Therefore it is crucial to exchange knowledge and experience to meet the needs of the society. It is also important to include students in this process, as they are the future of the research field and its development.
The solution: a joint master course
A joint master course, “Tourism Research and Methodology”, has been created to meet these needs where the aim is to initiate new research approaches, topics and find new qualitative and quantitative methods to measure the impact of tourism.
The course is an integral part of the partner universities’ existing study programmes. By developing the joint course, the master students of tourism studies get access to a modern learning environment and international knowledge of tourism research that will complement and improve the quality of their education. The course will be combined with e-learning and an international week of intensive lectures in May at Pärnu College, Estonia.
The four partner universities are:
- Lund University, The Department of Service Management and Service Studies (Sweden)
- Pärnu College, University of Tartu (Estonia)
- University of Oulu (Finland)
- Copenhagen Business School (Denmark)
