What is the best thing about your programme?
“Without a doubt, the interdisciplinary nature and the cultural exchanges are the best part. In this Master’s programme, every single student has a different professional and cultural background. As a manager, I cherish being exposed to different ways of thinking. When we work in a group, everyone will see the assignment under a different prism, which allows us to come up with a solution that we would not have found on our own!”
Why did you choose the specialisation Sustainable Service Management?
“Two reasons guided my choice. On a professional level, my domain, the hospitality industry, is running behind when it comes to sustainability! Hoteliers lack sustainability know-how, and there are still too few hotels with someone in charge of sustainability. This programme was therefore the perfect complement to my Bachelor’s in International Hospitality Management. It will allow me to gain in-depth knowledge of a topic that I consider essential for my future as a manager. On a personal level, I thought Sweden would be the best place to be immersed in a more sustainable way of living, as the country is a pioneer in sustainable development.”
What do you think of the teaching style within the programme?
“I enjoy the fact that the teachers stay very close to us. We can feel that they want us to take everything we can from every teaching session. In the meantime, they let us be very independent when it comes to working on the assignments they give us. I think that it is an excellent way to learn, as you are free to use the method that best fits your style of learning. The fact that we have numerous group works with students from other specialties also provides a great added value.”
What do you plan to do after your studies?
“I plan to return to hospitality management or work in hospitality consulting to be able to apply all my new knowledge about sustainability and sustainable management. I hope to help other professionals in my industry move towards innovative and more sustainable ways of receiving and accommodating people. Working for an NGO involved in sustainable development in developing countries could also be an inspiring option.”
What do you do in your spare time?
“I do a lot of hiking! The land of Skåne is so vast and beautiful; I think that two years may not be enough to discover all the natural wonders around Helsingborg.
I also discovered how cool biking around is – the south of Sweden is so much more flat than Switzerland!”
What is it like to live in Sweden and what have you learnt from it so far?
“You feel most welcome. Swedes are very friendly and are always ready to help when they see that you are lost or do not know what to do. Do not be afraid to ask in English – they know that Swedish is not easy to learn at the beginning. I also discovered that people in Sweden value their work–life balance. I sometimes forget to slow down, and seeing this helped me to adopt a calmer, healthier, and more balanced way of life.”
Do you have any advice for students considering to study at Lund University or Campus Helsingborg?
“Do not hesitate any longer! Lund University is one of the best universities in the world; the quality of the teaching is outstanding and you will meet with brilliant colleagues! Moreover, the campuses have a lively atmosphere, excellent infrastructures, and both Helsingborg and Lund are two of the most innovative and dynamic cities in Sweden.”
